Here is my first Thursday Thirteen. I did not know that there was no set topic every week and that I would have to actually *gasp* think of one myself. So to tie into my baby’s blog, here are thirteen reasons why we chose to homeschool our son:
- He is a pretty energetic child. This way he can be bouncing off the walls while learning.
- He can work at his own pace, which is usually lightning fast, and not be reprimanded for it.
- He loves to learn through play and can do this uninhibited by time constraints.
- The school system in our part of the world is not the best. Public, private, or Christian schools will not give him the environment he needs to thrive.
- I can choose whatever books he would best benefit from using without censorship.
- It is actually cheaper overall to have him home than to send him to school.
- He enjoys the freedom to socialize and network with any number of people of all ages.
- Grades are unimportant so he does not wrap his self worth into whether or not he got an A.
- He has the chance to grow and develop without embarrassment.
- He can ask as many questions as he wants without raising his hand.
- Learning stops only when he stops. He does not have to change subjects because a bell rang.
- He can actually fully comprehend a subject or concept without being interrupted.
- He can use all the resources available *for example: tv, video games, workbooks, books, nature* at all times and learn any number of things. His imagination is never limited to what a text book says.
There you have it. It was hard to bullet point those things, because it will never show the true passion that I have for homeschooling. I could not put into words the joy of having him learn at home. He is far beyond his grade level in most things and I know it is because we have taken the time to allow him to learn uninhibited.
Now I might just go off on a tangent about that and try to explain on his blog. HAHA.

I volunteer for our conservation dept and I do educational programs for homeschool and regular school kids. I’ve got to say that the homeschool kids are usually better behaved than the other school kids.
I also had a homeschool mom tell me that they are done with school faster too.
My 13 are up.
Thank you for that. That was nice to read. I have been contemplating lately homeschooling my kids.
Welcome to Thursday Thirteen! I hope you will continue.
I admire you for choosing to homeschool. I know you child will be better for it.

I enjoyed reading your blog – happy Thursday!
I really wish we could incorporate some of these ideas in the public school system as a whole. I know I try in my classroom. As a public school teacher, I see the value of public schooling, but I can also see the definite advantages of homeschooling.
Interesting list. And thanks for commenting on mine!!
