New search types seem like a good idea

I have been reading about Wikiasari and the new Web 2.0 genre of search. There is another site that is looking to rival the Wikiasari. If you take a look at the Sproose home page you will find a totally different kind of search engine. It is user-based, which means that you and I have control over what is seen as important on the network of websites. We can vote on a scale from 1 to 5 about the usefulness of a site. You see the results in your searches. It’s much like Digg in that you are deciding which content will reign supreme. I like the idea of the new user-based engines. It gives you more control over what you see and experience on the Web, while influencing others around the globe.

You can read more about Wikiasari and this type of search engine on my Tech blog

All your content are belong to us

As my friend pointed out to me yesterday, I agree that it sucks about Vista and Firefox not playing well together. Firefox has released a statement about it, but to me, it’s just another ploy to get Microsoft and its products to be number one by any means necessary.

I will probably be writing about that on my tech blog later on. I have lots of things to write about there. You should go check it out. I am forever adding content.

Poor husby!

Every time he gets sick, the inside of his nose swells. Neither of us can figure out why or how this happens, but it does. I am thinking that he may have to go in for some revisional nose surgery. I hope not, though. I wonder if they could even fix it. It only happens when he gets sick with a head cold, which is actually about once a year. He is just starting to get over the one for this year. Me and the little force of nature only got bits and pieces of his sickness. I got a sore/scratchy throat and the baby got a bit of a cough/sneezy/runny nose thing. We are all nearly better now, though. I made sure to get some meds in the baby pretty quickly and I got on echinacea and green tea so I wouldn’t be down and out. That reminds me, I haven’t taken an echinacea today!

Tagged for Charity

Somehow or other I was tagged to give five charities which I thought were worthy of donations.

Here are the five charities that I feel deserve to be noticed:

  • My friend Colleen deserves donations as she walks for the cure in October of 2007. The cure for what? Breast Cancer.
  • The Ronald McDonald House deserves donations. They are forever helping families like mine.
  • The Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus also deserves some money. They are working to find solutions and cures for the very same issues my sister has had to face since before she was born.
  • The American Cancer Society should definitely get some love, too. My own family members have lived through and died with Cancer.
  • Many a fellow blogger have taken it upon themselves to support Heifer International. They feed the hungry and promote peace.

I have personal vested interests in all of these charities. There are more, but they only asked for 5. So from here I tag Colleen, Marcus, Cass, and Allison.

And if you are still in the giving mood…

An unnerving experience

I just received my turtle shell in the mail. I can tell you, when I opened the box, I was not quite ready for the surge of emotion that flooded me. I saw it and immediately pictured the poor creature who had donned that very shell. I nearly got sick to my stomach. I could smell the distinctive aroma of the turtle…one that I will never forget as it is part of my childhood. I kept a turtle when I was young and she was my greatest treasure till her tragic death.

The shell is beautiful and I am thankful to have it. It is just so weird to hold it in my hand without a living creature poking its head out to look at me.

Losing weight the easy way?

My problem is, how can it be healthy? Using things like Hoodia diet pills that don’t promote overall health from diet and exercise. I just can’t get into it. It probably works pretty well for many people, but what are the side effects? At least the Hoodia pills don’t have ephedra or caffeine in them. They trick your mind into thinking that you are full when you aren’t. It could help someone become more thin than they should be, but what can you do about that? Education is the only way to make sure that people know the consequences of using the pills in the wrong way. Beings that Hoodia is a natural plant that has been used for centuries makes me feel a little better about it, but it’s just not the way I would choose to lose my weight.
