May 12th started with us getting ready to go to my nephew’s confirmation. It was a long trek to get to the church, but it was worth it. He looked so solemn. I love that he has taken a step of faith like this. He adored his present, was nearly speechless when he saw it and the engraving on the back. We had to rush away to get back here in time for our flight. We got back here in time to pick up the other car full of bags and take our leave to the airport.

We had a time figuring out where to go to get to the actual airport since the directions were wrong. We weren’t late, though. Delaware’s airport is small and friendly. We actually enjoyed having to wait 2 1/2 hours for the weather to clear in Atlanta before we could even hope to leave. The employees were nice enough to give my son a coloring book to help him cope with the waiting process.

The storm had reached up to our area by then, but it wasn’t too bad. I had some pictures from being above the clouds and a video of the Kid’s first reaction on the plane BUT somehow my memory card hiccuped and I don’t have them. There was some pretty icky turbulence for a little while. We passed over 4 storms but the pilots were great and we didn’t have to deal with too much stomach rolling.

In Atlanta finally at 10:30pm, we then had to figure out where to get our car. No one was at the desk and those of us who used their service worked together to find out that they had a shuttle over to where you actually get the car. Who would’ve thunk it? We finally get over there and get a Jeep Cherokee. For whatever reason, they wouldn’t take my PayPal card. Most people looked at it like it was a foreign object from planet Creylon or something. They all assumed it was a prepaid card *which it’s not*, but at least hubby was able to get the car with our other debit card. Then we were off to the hotel.

The room was small but cozy. It served it’s purpose since we were so tired and had to get up early. We did try to order food from the local Pizza Hut, but they blew us off and never came. I am glad I didn’t pay them in advance! The next day we were back to the airport to get ready for our final flight till the 19th.

The views that we saw on the way were gorgeous…sometimes even bringing tears to my eyes. Three hours on the plane and we were in Puerto Rico, greeted by balloons and a sign that said “Bienvenidos!” which is Welcome in Spanish. Next stop: another car. We had to take a shuttle there, too, but we expected as much this time. We got a Toyota Corrolla and drove the hour and a half drive across the width of Puerto Rico to Ponce.

We nearly got lost, but thankfully some relatives came to rescue us from the area McDonald’s *yes they have that*. We went to Titi Joanne’s house for a Mother’s Day party. The family was all there and speaking too quickly for me to comprehend much. The Kid fell in love with Grandmom from the instant they met. We spent some hours there getting acquainted, then headed off for Titi Enid & Tio Eric’s house. They were more than hospitable. Then we started making plans for the rest of the week.

More in a little while.

  1. I can’t wait to read the rest. I’m so glad it all went so well! I’ve been thinking about you this week! The pics are awesome, and I missed seeing you :)

  2. How stupid that they wouldn’t take your PP card. It’s got the MasterCard logo on it, right??!! That’s just not right! What company was it?

Great pictures, and I can’t wait to hear more about your trip! I loved all the pictures on your Flickr account.

  3. Yes it does have the MC logo. It was One Dollar Deal and their issues. Then in PR Hertz wouldn’t take our Commerce Bank card with the Visa logo but did take PayPal.

  7. I just spent about half-an-hour on your Flikr page. Sounds like the trip went well, especially for traveling with a little one. And how wonderful to be surrounded by so much family love! Mahalo for putting this in the Postie Carnival so I’d have a chance to see it. :D
