Jamieson Wolf: Up close and personal

I had the pleasure of interviewing one of my new favorite authors, Jamieson Wolf. He was kind enough to allow me to host him on his cyber book tour. I love his tag line “the Wolf never sleeps…”. It’s funny, I have always been drawn to wolves. To be honest, they are the balancing symbol to my eagle symbol (tribal stuff). To check out his current works, make sure to visit the site for The Ghost Mirror, and Hunted. He has books up for sale as ebooks and paperbacks.

Let’s get into the interview, shall we?

Where do you get your inspiration to write?

From anywhere and everywhere. I get inspiration a lot of the time from tidbits of conversation I hear. Dreams are good to inspire a lot of my short stories. Mostly I just let ideas develop and if it seems like a good one, I put it down on paper.

At what age did you know that writing would be your life?

When I was eighteen. I had written my first real short story and thought, hey, I want to do more of this. It soon stopped being just a hobby and more of a full time obsession.

Do you have any of your early work that we can look at?

Yep. Most of my early work was short stories. I was finding my feet and trying out characters voices, my style of writing. You can view most of my short stories in my fiction collection Garden City which you can find at my web site www.jamiesonwolf.com However, if you pop Jamieson Wolf into Google, you’ll find a few short stories on the web.

How long have you been married? What about your marriage gives fuel to your writing?

I celebrated my one year wedding anniversary on June 9th of this year! I can’t believe it’s already been a year. I’d swear it was only a couple of months. Robert, my husband, helps fuel my writing because he supports what I do and likes to read what I write. I’ve never had that in a relationship before; usually, my significant other would scoff at the idea of my being a writer.

Thankfully Robert supports me completely and wants nothing more than for me to succeed. That means the world to me and I couldn’t ask for a better sounding board.

What do you do to punch through writer’s block?

You know, I don’t often have writers block. If I do get stuck on a piece I’m writing, I put it away and work on something else and let what I was working on brew in my head. Usually, something will work itself out.

Where is your favorite place to write?

I have my studio at home. I’ve got the art I’ve done hanging on the walls, a beautiful window to let sun in and Alice the Aloe plant sitting on my desk. It’s comfortable (though I could do with a better desk chair). Ideally, though, I love taking a journal and a pen and going to a park or a cafe to write. I love the hub bub of people and sound.

Do you have any requirements for when you are writing? Like a favorite drink or food that helps to keep you focused?

No real requirements. Just will power not to surf the Internet and some good music. My current fave is Life in Cartoon Motion by Mika. I LOVE that album and I must have listened to it close to a hundred times by now.

I was enthralled by the first book “The Ghost Mirror”. How did this story develop?

I’m thrilled you liked the book! It came about when I was unemployed. I wrote the prologue first with Mr. Lavender. I had no idea what the story was about at the time but I had wanted to write a kids book featuring my cat, Mave. Instead, Mave transformed into a girl while I was writing because the whole cat thing just didn’t work.

In the end, it felt like Mave Mallory was telling me the story rather than me writing it. I think it turned out fairly well, don’t you?

How many books will be in this series?

Right now there will be three featuring Mave: THE GHOST MIRROR, THE SILVER GLASS (Coming in Summer of 2008) and THE LAST WITCH (Coming in Summer of 2009). After that, I have a little tiny idea that is growing into a bigger one of having a book featuring Cleo or Mona but I’m not sure about that yet. So three for sure.

If you could do or be anything you wanted in the entire world, would you still be a writer?

In a word? Yes. I don’t write because I want to. I write because I need to. Although, it would be kind of fun to be an archaeologist. LOL

Thanks for having me!

No, Jamieson thank YOU. I can’t wait to sink my eyes into the sequel to The Ghost Mirror, coming out next year!

Keep your eyes open for more reviews of his works. I have a secret UNCUT version of a book staring me in my face on my computer right now just waiting to be devoured… more on that soon!
