Got a sample of Kinky Curly Curling Custard the other day and fell in total love. My son’s hair looks fantabulous, even after sleeping on it. My hair looked great yesterday and I refreshed it a bit today .. it still looks good. The husband agrees, so we are BUYING this stuff next week when he gets paid *woot!*

So what is it that this stuff does? It defines actual curls and waves. It makes your hair do what it does, but better. Sure, it’s 26 bucks a can, but you don’t use a lot. I got a 1.5 oz sample and have used it less than half to mess around in my hair and my son’s hair.

I have to get rid of a few things in my repertoire of hair care, though, now that I am going KCCC. It doesn’t work that great with silicones or any cones. Mind you, I am using them and have the KCCC in my hair, it’s working well…but I just know it could be better. So, I am switching to these types of products:

Suave Naturals *shampoo / conditioner * OR White Rain Naturals
Olive Oil *actual, not the sheen*
WATER!!! *It’s not the enemy anymore*
Fantasia Frizz Gel *sparingly and only when needed*
and of course Kinky Curly Curling Custard

I will still do roller sets with the Organics Olive Oil setting foam stuff, but that’s when I won’t be using KCCC. Just something to change up the styles.

I can hardly contain my glee.

I can’t really take a good picture of how far the short, broken part of my hair has come. I can tell you how awesome it is for me to be able to braid my hair without too much of a break in continuity. It’s awesome to be able to put it into twists *which are still ugly for my head IMO* and not have to make up for the shortness of the back part of my hair. It still has about an inch or 3 to go before it is as long as what I already have. When it all grows out 2 more inches, I am cutting off the 2 inches of damage that are still on my head. That will be a great day indeed!

I hate hair. It is such a defining factor in the way you are seen and the way you see yourself. Sometimes I wish I could just shave it bald and never deal with it again.

I am still on the search for what my hair type really is. I have it grown out enough to be able to tell something more about it. I can give you an idea of what it’s like to have the hair that I have.

When wet, uncombed, and air dried, I end up with a massive ball of frizz that has ringlet curls and small waves that never lay down.

When combed in the shower and air dried, I have straight hair at the roots that move into to medium wave intervals, and lots of volume/body.

When brushed while wet, I end up with about the same thing I have combed in the shower, except that the brushing makes the waves more uniform.

What do you do with hair that has so much volume and body that you cannot get it to lay down without beating it into submission? It does NOT fro…I repeat does NOT fro. It FRIZZES, even with use of frizz control, it can only do so much.

So I decided to get some more things for my hair, because I am switching a few things in my regimen. My hair has never been so soft!

I am still using the Profectiv Strengthener, but have cut down a bit on the use of the Wave Noveau moisturizer. I bought some Olive Oil spray sheen, which is working really well for my hair and a defrizzing gel with no alcoholic content. Joyful stuff! It doesn’t gag my hair at all. I can use it to straighten with the flat iron, blow dry (ut I don’t do that), or just wear natural. Works like a charm.

I even got rained on, and my hair barely puffed. I am having a ball with my hair right now. The short spots are long enough to hold in braids, so I am doing that some days. Just glad to be able to stick with this natural thing.

My buddy Dr. Victorine aka idadi has posted the interview we did on the IM Saturday morning. I was the star of her recent Journey Feature for natural hair. I was more than honored to get in on this blog. Make sure you check out my story. She had some really good questions that made me think!

Okay so I have a serious problem. I do not have “typical” black hair. What does that mean? Well, even if it is picked and teased it won’t stand up straight. It does not like twists. It doesn’t lock, even if you roll around on a bed with it out, it just breaks. I don’t have tight little curls. I have the beginning of a curl that turns into a wavy curl as it gets longer, hence the reason I cannot fro my hair. It takes to the flat iron VERY well and always comes out lovely when I use it.

I like my curls, but it is going to take a LONG time for my hair to get long enough for me to even consider having it out in all its truly natural *glory*. I have 3 lengths of hair right now, so it’s definitely not a good look. I am resolved not to do any more drastic cuts on it.

Products: Dove Intensive Care (dark blue), Wave Nuveau Moisturizing Lotion (left over from when I had Wave Nuveau in my hair), hair strengthener and leave in conditioner.

I just measured the short parts of my hair in the back. From over a month ago, it has grown 1.25 inches bringing me to about 2 inches of unprocessed hair in that area. It’s a huge step, since it was all broken off before. It is quickly closing in on the 5 inches of hair I have in places where it has not broken off. I can wear it out now, and no one notices the length change unless they are in the business of professional hair care.

I have been vigilant about wrapping my hair in some sort of kerchief or head scarf every night as well as keeping my hair from brushing my clothes in the back. The other day, I let it hang down a bit too far and I could hear the strands snapping off as they rubbed against my jacket. I quickly remedied that issue. Soon, I will have to find another hairstyle to keep it off my shirts as it grows down past the nape of my neck.

My hair? Oh it’s growing just fine. I have finally figured out the “magic formula” for allowing my hair the rest time it needs in order to rejuvenate from chemical hell. My hair is getting longer, stronger, and more brilliant every week…at least, that’s when I notice it. I am sure things are happening every day. I am using some really good smelling pink serum that is for promoting growth and strength while minimizing breakage. Fantastic stuff, so fantastic that my son decided to dip his hand in and use some for his own hair since he wants it to grow back in now LOL

Shot out to my sister in the tresses, Dr. Victorine. Check her link out on the sidebar.
