Well, truck trouble. Yesterday, I prepared myself and my son for the long, hot journey to my cousin’s house for the birthday party. On the way, I found myself looking at a little red icon lit on my dashboard:

battery.

So I text my husband (wish I would have had a Bluetooth headset then, cuz the text wasn’t quite enough info), and he says he forgot to charge the battery. That’s all he said. Okay,so I figure I have time to get to my aunt’s, then my father’s and get him to charge it. I only barely made it to my cousin’s house. By the time I got to the city where she lives, I had no signal lights, no ABS and no brake lights.

I had a good time at the party, then called my father to come with his charger. After a few wrong turns, he got there and charged up the truck battery. Surprise! It wouldn’t keep a charge, so my family decided that we should drive it to Wal-Mart and get a new battery instead of trying to continuously charge this one.

That’s where the real fun began.

It took us 3 hours, and a God sent good Samaritan named Tom Earl, to get the battery loose from my truck to install the brand new one. We had to get tools and it was just not pretty. I even injured my hand, which is making it difficult to work today *sigh*. The battery kept its charge long enough to get to my mom’s house, and then come home. The fact is:

We need a new alternator.

When I got home, I came in on a horror scene. The dog had broken from his cage, eaten everything that we told him he wasn’t allowed to have (seriously), threw it all up all over my house, peed, and rubbed his hair on everything. Needless to say, his nasty self stayed outside last night. … sometimes I wonder why I got a dog.

I used to have a car named Red Devil. He was my boyfriend. We had lots of good times together. I bought him things like mock C5 wheels so that he would feel special. He was a great car. We took drives on long winding highways from New Jersey to Maryland going 95 miles an hour. He was beautiful, stick shift, so fast it would scare people. I loved the feeling of the wind in my hair as I flew to the shores of another state. If he could have, I am sure he would have driven me around the world.

Alas and woe, one day his tranny blew. Those gorgeous rims glimmered among the growing grass on the lawn. They winked at me, cried for me to come and give them a little rub down. He seemed to sigh as he overlooked the roadways. We still spent time together. I would go and listen to the radio with him, blasting Tupac’s me and my girlfriend while screaming out “boyfriend” instead. If it was possible to be in love with a machine, he was it. He had to go, though. I didn’t have the money to fix him. He cried as I cried to see him whisked away.

Sometimes I still see him around the town we once took by storm. He still has that characteristic scar on the left tail light that tells me it’s him. He still has his mock C5 wheels that wink at me as I drive past. I am just glad that he found peace and love with another who had the money to take care of him right.

Even though I have my lovely truck, I still miss the Mercury that we bought before that. Remember that car? It was so pretty. It’s still sitting waiting for a mechanic. I guess we are going to have to see if it really does need a new computer or just a power supply repair of sorts. I wish we had both the truck and the car on the road. The old blue car can only last so much longer without an overhaul. *prays we can get the other car fixed before that happens*

My next door neighbor made a grave discover. Her car spoiler has disappeared without a trace. I find it weird that so many things are happening around here to cars since the new neighbors moved in. First our tire was slashed, and now this. I have to wonder what they are thinking. Do they not know that people are noticing these things?

I am NOT obsessed! I can stop talking about it any time I want! Seriously, though. I am still fantasizing about the wonderful auto accessories I am going to buy for the truck. Right now, though, we still have to buy the tire for the blue car. It has everything to do with our plans for our anniversary, as we will need two cars for that. My poor rickety blue car. I wish it was in better shape. I &heart; that car. It was weird to drive it after being in the truck so much. We felt like we were dragging along the ground!

Tell me if this means anything. I was dreaming last night about my other car…the one that is sitting at my father in law’s house waiting for a mechanic. I was driving it to the doctor’s office, had my kid with me. The doctor’s office turned out to be a store instead. When I came back out with my kid, the car was nowhere to be found in the small parking lot. I looked in my purse, and felt that my keys were still there. I couldn’t believe the car was gone. I was looking all around and realized that the car was gone. The highway was right in front of me, so I knew that it wasn’t coming back. I was panicking, and my kid was just there hovering around me. It was just weird.

I thought the lady that had the truck before us had some weird way to hook up her radar detectors, but then I found a telephone plug. I was like, umm why?. My husband took a look at it and said “that’s for ethernet”… then it all became clear. The little “radar detecting” antenna in the windshield was actually for:
WIFI!
So, if I ever get my laptop to work (or procure another one) I will be able to hook up via Wifi in the McDs parking lot! HAHA! I love that truck more and more. I just pray it keeps on working.

We are still running the same car we have been running since my son was born. It’s a ‘92 Buick Skylark. I love it, other than the fact that it needs some TLC. If we were to get some body shop supplies to take care of the rust bubbles and the ceiling cave in that we are experiencing, I would be extra happy. That is the best car we have ever owned. It barely cost us anything in repairs over the last four years. I pray that it lives for a long time, but we really should fix a few things on it if we plan to keep it much longer.
