Today is my little sister’s 22nd birthday. I don’t know if I will get to see her or not, but here are a few pictures to show you just how much we LURVE each other
So happy birthday, kid. It’s so awesome that you and I have been friends so long. Here is to another 22 years!
Well, for many people this is the last day they have to get their last presents. Thankfully, I finished up what I needed to do yesterday. No fighting through crowds and traffic for me. I can only imagine the backups. Last night my husband saw a six car pile up and watched a three car pile up happen at a red light. People are just not paying attention and ending up paying dearly for it.
For me, today is the last day of cleaning and preparation for our Christmas Eve soiree. I am roasting 2 chickens, mashing potatoes, and heating some corn. The rest of the feast will consist of my aunt’s famous macaroni and cheese, shrimp, artichoke spinach dip, crab cake dip, coquito, and LOVE.
This evening I went to the store with less money than I needed to spend. God sent me an angel who paid my grocery bill for me. Wherever you are, kind stranger, who pulled out a 20 dollar bill to cover my grocery bill, I thank you. My dog thanks you because I was buying his food. My family thanks you because we were able to keep a few dollars till next paycheck. I especially thank you. I cried tears of sheer joy and praise to God after our meeting. I will never forget you as long as I live. I pray that God blesses you beyond measure that you can imagine.
Due to the fact that florescent lights make you leave light trails when you move and digital imagery picks those up, many photos I took were trash. BUT I did salvage plenty for you to see exactly what we did that day. SO here are the 30th Birthday Photos for my cousin Tag. You will see a few pictures of a skit our friends put on about how he met his fiance. Story is that my ten year old cousin (his nephew) hooked him up with the teacher from his school. The phrase he used to introduce them: Here comes the man of your dreams. Apparently, that little boy is pretty intuitive. The party was right across from the senior living center in their town. We had so much fun, we hardly wanted it to end.
After all the eating I have been doing I might have to look into diet pills after the holidays! Not really, but I have been eating a lot lately. Last night I went to my cousin’s 30th birthday party and had a ball. Everything worked out at the last minute so that we could attend. I must say that I am glad we did. I haven’t seen him in a long tim. I am so glad that he had an awesome time. I will have to get through the 30 pictures I took and post them later, though. Here is a teaser:
Our Thanksgiving day was one of peace and joy. My mother and father were the first to arrive with their contributions to dinner. My mother’s store bought smoked turkey was more like ham. I thought it was funny, since we had both mentioned that there was no ham to be had between us. Her sweet potato pies are always a hit. This year, the cool whip only marred the flavor of this delectable dessert
My sister’s deviled eggs, a yearly tradition, were also present. She showed up not long after her dish did. She brought along her boyfriend T. He is a nice guy. I swear he is her, but a man. He ate his weight and a half in food. Mind you, we are all well aware of what turkey will do to a person:
My husband arrived with my nephew and my son while after dinner had begun. Traffic and weather slowed them down or they would have made it just in time to eat. My nephew is staying with us till Saturday, so hubby went to spend a little time with his family while I finished up cooking here for mine.
Toward the end dinner, the bartender went to work. My sister V made up some egg nog with spiced rum. It was good (but strong) so we didn’t get crazy with it. We are already crazy enough without the drink LOL:
Here are a few more pictures from Tday:
Everyone stayed a good long while. We had an awesome time. We had plenty of dessert to go around (my yogurt cake, my caramel Kahlua coffee cake, mom’s sweet potato pie). All in all a fantastic day.
I am thankful for the family that I have. I am thankful that they were all able to come to my home and enjoy a home-cooked feast with me. It means so much to me that we all get along. We have a level of trust and honesty that many families do not have. My father and I have come a long way from our tumultuous relationship from my younger years. I am thankful that we had a chance to turn it around before too late. I am thankful that my son loves my mother so much that he let out all of his enthusiasm into screaming out “grandmom” when he came through the door. I am thankful that my nephew feels so at ease in our home and can chat with my side of the family as if we were his own blood. I am blessed that my husband gets along with my family and there is no strain amongst them anymore. I am at peace today with all thanksgiving to God for the blessings he has given me in my family, my home, my heart.
This weekend is our sixth anniversary. Saturday we will celebrate together. I am so excited. It has been an arduous journey at times, but this marriage…this man…have been worth it all. We have a beautiful child and a lovely home. We have found our plateau of happiness together. It took us nearly a full 6 years…but we found the place where we mesh and intertwine. I am so happy to have him in my life. I hate using terms that equate him with God or even the gods of history, but the only words I can find to describe him are:
My Golden Adonis.
He has been to me what no man has ever truly been:
Patient
His love for me is like that of the love of God:
Unconditional.
“I have found the one whom my soul loves, I held him and would not let him go “… Solomon 3:4
Thank you, Almighty, for fashioning the man who sharpens me.
