Coby, oh Coby

We left him last night for 5 hours and he got out of his kennel. Want to know what happened next? You will have to read it on my other journal. All is well, he is fine. My blinds…well, read for yourselves.

Kathy invited me to the Akita yahoo group this morning so I am over there reading now. Great stories about Akitas. Coby is not an Akita, but he came from the association so I qualify for entering the group. Go me!

Getting my son back today!

I am getting my son back today. I am glad…he and I need a break sometimes. Some breaks are just too long. He has been gone since Friday and was supposed to come back last night. I am definitely getting him today whether or not I have to drive to get him myself.

I need to go to a store and buy a few things in the process whether we go to get him or not. I want to hit up Petco for some toothpaste and maybe a toothbrush for the dog since I apparently can’t fine any suitable bones that will offer long term help to make sure his teeth and gums say healthy.

Dry Pet Shampoo

I found a great recipe for Dry Pet Shampoo and I thought I would share it with all of you. I have used the baking soda on my dog and it made him stop smelling like dog so much. He actually didn’t smell like anything for a whole week. I was rather impressed. I am going to try this out soon for him during the winter months. Enjoy.

Ingredients:
1 C Flour
1 C Cornmeal

Directions:
1. Mix and pour into a container roomy enough to hold the pet. A large paper box for a big pet or a deep roasting dish for a small animal will work.

2. To Use: Place container filled with the mixture in the bathtub and then gently place you pet into the pan or box. Rub the mixture by handfuls in your pet’s fur until all the goo or oil or mess has been absorbed. Gently brush the mixture out of the fur. Be careful to keep the mixture OUT OF THE PET’S EYES, NOSE, AND EARS. Dispose of the used mixture. It’s a good idea to follow up with a regular mild shampoo at this point if you can manage it. Makes 2 c.

Try this to get the goop out of your pet’s fur. It’s a sure and gently method and you must stroke the shampoo into the pet’s fur.

How to keep your pet from the vet

You all know that I have been blessed with a sweet doggy of my own. I also have been doing much research to make sure that this house dog is well taken care of. I was just reading about 101 ways to avoid the vet. The article is pretty informative. I learned that pine needles are toxic, which I had no clue about before. I also didn’t realize that since he has been leading our walks, he is the pack leader. That is something I am trying to remedy. I hate being pulled along and have been doing some assertive training to make sure that I am understood. Any pet owner would benefit from reading these tips. They are good reminders and you might just learn something new.

Moving around

SO I have decided to stop the Coby category for the most part here and make my ramblings into a one stop shop. LOL It won’t be all about Coby just mostly. I will be covering issues about pets, forums about pets, and interesting things I find online in my quest to be the best dog mommy that I can be… I did the same for my son, so it should be no surprise HAHA

Go visit The Coby Chronicles.

Yawn! What a weekend.

Is it Monday? Really? It is? I feel like I have been in a washing machine all weekend. I have hardly slept.

My son has been totally subversive. Today he decided to calm down a bit. It’s just everyone getting used to the changes in routine. I am trying to retrain the dog to go #2 outside and that his crate is his friend. I am also trying to find a happy medium between sleep and taking care of 2 babies.

This is some new stuff for me. I have never had a house trained dog that was mine. The only one I knew well was my grandmother’s chihuahua who was trained well before I knew what it was. I never rescued an animal before. The two dogs that I had before him were puppies when I got them and trained to be outside dogs. I have never dealt with a crate before. I know dogs, but like I said, some new experiences. That’s why I am glad I have friends like Marisa, Amy, Deb and the gang to help me out.

I have decided to keep him crate trained as it will be better for when we have guests * like annoying little children LOL * and he will have somewhere safe to go. I have also bought him a bunch of cool stuff that I should be getting in the mail soon. Want to see? If not you don’t have to…. Continue reading

A boy and his dog

Finally something to post for the Friday Ark. Every time I see it come up on the blog carnival website I think to myself : My how I would love to contribute to this carnival. Well, I have my puppy now so here is a picture of him and my son in the living room together. Aren’t they too adorable?

They are already bosom buddies. My son won’t let him alone. He keeps following him around and trying to jump on his back. My son takes Coby into his room or the kitchen and they have conversations. Coby is just lapping up the lovin’. He is also a spoiled boy already. Coby enjoys getting foot rubs, massages with his brand new brush, laying all over his new daddy in my bed, licking faces, scaring squirrels, and many brisk walks around the neighborhood. You would never know he was neglected, and we have only had him since Friday. I always wanted to rescue a dog, and I am thankful for Petfinder and Camp Waggin’ Tails for their help in obtaining Coby.

Cooking for Coby

I made a batch of Woofys dog treats for my Coby today. He loves them so much. He already had 4. I made them so I would have something to give him when he does things I ask him to do in the house. The chesse popcorn dog treats are for when we are outside taking a walk. Here is the recipe for Woffys from thepoop.com:

1/2 cup milk
1 egg
2 spoons of peanutbutter
a dash of water
a dash of salt
1 1/4 cup flour

Mix the egg, peanutbutter, water, and the milk in to a large bowl.
Then pour the flour and salt in.
Stirr well and heat the oven to 350′F.

They only take around 10 minutes to cook. They smelled really good and he was all over me to get some as soon as they were done. He got some warm, but not hot. He is already a spoiled doggy.
