WHEW what a weekend! Saturday was my cousin Tag’s big wedding. He and his wife had been planning it for months. It went off an hour and a half late without a hitch, and everyone had great fun at the reception. Here are the pictures that I took, but I am waiting to snag more from other people as they upload them.

After the reception, we went to pick up my son at my in-law’s house, but stayed to chit chat with the Man’s brother & wife. We didn’t get back until around 3 in the morning. Then we set the alarm for 9 AM for church.

I was the first up, and got everyone else in gear to get to church. The Man stood for his blessing and prayers as well as his present. I didn’t get a picture of us up there because we were ALL up there LOL. After that, it was off to the Powwow, then we hi-tailed it to his parents’ house for the rest of the FaBirthday Festivities (his brother turned 38 yesterday).

We had so much fun, I can hardly tell you about it all.

After my husband got home last night, we decided to “do something”. By the time he took a nap and whatnot, it was too late to go to the mall and window shop. We decided to patronize the local stores that we don’t normally visit.

First, my husband took me to a Spanish food shop that has Puerto Rican food. He heard about it at his job and wanted to try it out. We ordered a plate to go. The food was phenomenal. I make PR food at home, but let’s face it: I’m not Puerto Rican. There is a huge difference between something I learned to make recently and something that someone has been making all their lives. MMMmmmMM. Next, we headed over to the bank to get some cash. Then we went to the Family Dollar to see if there was anything interesting to buy. We got a new pretty welcome mat, some boric acid *damned roaches*, ice pop tray *me and the kid will be doing that for Science*, a little fan *that thing totally kicks*, and a few other things. After that, we headed over to get some movies from the local Block-buster. On the way back, we stopped at Burger King and got a few burgers to hold us over till we got home.

We bought 3 movies: War, Shoot ‘Em Up, and Why Did I Get Married. Holy Crap! Talk about good movies. 3 in a row! Amazing. War was totally twisted. You couldn’t guess the truth if you tried. Shoot ‘Em Up was funny and had a good story line. WDIGM, I saw the play ..but the movie was WAY better.

So that was our date night. We had a great time and went to bed ridiculously late. Fun stuff!

I went to my church’s women’s dinner this past Monday. I meant to tell you about it, so I am doing it now! The theme was transformation. The animal was butterfly. There were these cute little pretzel bites on everyone’s plate with a little gummy worm hanging out, representing the cocoon. Then there were all sorts of little sandwiches and treats shaped like butterflies, dirt pudding, and decorations. Everyone got a little homemade butterfly magnet.

We played games like who has the most unusual thing in their purse. I was the runner up! The person who won had a long water thermometer in her purse. Then we played purse scavenger hunt, which was interesting. We also listened to some inspiring preaching from the Diane who is a missionary to Kirlbati near Fiji. I got to fraternize with a lot of ladies from our church and a few other churches.

The food was fantastic, the coffee was good, tea was great. Company was magnificent. The whole thing was very well done. People got prizes for random things like bringing their Bible to the dinner. I received a gorgeous little teacup and saucer set for being there HAHA. I also got to take home lots of fruit and chicken salad *thanks Chris!*. So tasty. I had a great time and I look forward to hanging out with the women again soon!

Among the awesome presents my son is getting this Christmas you will find three educational toys from Learning Resources.

lightsnaction.jpgFirst up is the Gears, Gears, Gears! Lights & Action set. This is made for ages 5 to 10. There are so many pieces I almost didn’t know what to do. Once I figured out the basic idea of how to get the gears together, it was pretty neat. I don’t think my son will have a problem with it. He loves figuring things like this out. It even glows in the dark, which he will find fascinating. It only takes 2 AA batteries.

alphaball.jpgNext we have the AlphaBall Electronic Word Game. My husband was testing that out. I don’t get why the unit is so big, but I am guessing it is supposed to add to the arcade feel. The game is optimal for children 6 to 10 years old. It has 6 different game modes. The puzzles range from easy to advanced. You can work with words in English and Spanish. That is important, since we are trying to teach our son Spanish. Bilingualism is so important. He will have hours of fun with this once he get the hang of it. I think it will be a nice family game for us to play together. This one takes 3 AA batteries.

jumpnjam.jpg Lastly, we have the Jump N’ Jam Jungle mat. I got to play with this. It is for children ages three to 5, but I can see me and my son having a blast with it. There are five game mods for your child to develop their listening, memorization, and following directions skills. Your child also gets to practice their shapes and colors. I think it’s one of the best interactive mats I have seen for a child. It takes the most power, with 4 AA batteries. Not a problem for those of us who use rechargeables.

All in all some really good learning toys. I know that he is going to FLIP when he sees them. I better get some more batteries before Christmas, though. I need MY batteries to take pictures!

Marcus tagged me for this one so I thought I would participate.

1. How do you like your eggs cooked? Any special ingredients?
In an omelet. Ideally with tomatoes, mushrooms, cheddar cheese, and mozzarella cheese.

2. What’s your favorite cold sandwich, made on two pieces of bread?
Simply turkey and cheese.

3. What is your favorite pie?
Sweet potato.

4. Name one food you refuse to eat and why.
Octopus. EW It sticks to your tongue. Squid does too. GROOOOSSSSS.

5. What’s the name of your favorite restaurant, and is it small or part of a chain?
The Maplewood. I have only been there once, but it was PHENOMENAL. It is part of a small chain.

More like a rearrangement of sorts…and a purging. I wish I had a before picture to show the difference… but this is the result:

kitchenrevamp

It looks huge now that the microwave has been moved from the white table on the right to the counter. The counter appliances have been rearranged. We have also taken out one of the storage units that was behind the door of the fridge.

storenspinIn addition to all the loveliness I have also subtracted all but 5 pieces of small plastic storage vessels. I have replaced them with snap and spin containers! I am excited as I have always wanted some of them. There are a few other things we are going to completely purge and replace, but I will save that for another post, another day :D
