Thursday Thirteen

Here is my first Thursday Thirteen. I did not know that there was no set topic every week and that I would have to actually *gasp* think of one myself. So to tie into my baby’s blog, here are thirteen reasons why we chose to homeschool our son:

  1. He is a pretty energetic child. This way he can be bouncing off the walls while learning.
  2. He can work at his own pace, which is usually lightning fast, and not be reprimanded for it.
  3. He loves to learn through play and can do this uninhibited by time constraints.
  4. The school system in our part of the world is not the best. Public, private, or Christian schools will not give him the environment he needs to thrive.
  5. I can choose whatever books he would best benefit from using without censorship.
  6. It is actually cheaper overall to have him home than to send him to school.
  7. He enjoys the freedom to socialize and network with any number of people of all ages.
  8. Grades are unimportant so he does not wrap his self worth into whether or not he got an A.
  9. He has the chance to grow and develop without embarrassment.
  10. He can ask as many questions as he wants without raising his hand.
  11. Learning stops only when he stops. He does not have to change subjects because a bell rang.
  12. He can actually fully comprehend a subject or concept without being interrupted.
  13. He can use all the resources available *for example: tv, video games, workbooks, books, nature* at all times and learn any number of things. His imagination is never limited to what a text book says.

There you have it. It was hard to bullet point those things, because it will never show the true passion that I have for homeschooling. I could not put into words the joy of having him learn at home. He is far beyond his grade level in most things and I know it is because we have taken the time to allow him to learn uninhibited.

Now I might just go off on a tangent about that and try to explain on his blog. HAHA.
